Want to turn a simple hair tie into something cute and handmade? 🌸🧢 This crochet hair tie is a small, fun project that is perfect for beginners and can be customised in almost any colour.

Instead of buying ordinary hair ties, you can decorate them with crochet flowers or a simple crochet border to create a unique accessory for everyday hairstyles, festive outfits, or handmade gifts.

🧢 What You’ll Need

  • Crochet yarn – green for base and select any vibrant colours for flower
  • Crochet hook suitable for your yarn (2 mm)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

🌸 Stitches Needed for This Project

For a simple version of this crochet hair gajra, focus on

  • Single Crochet
  • Slip Stitch
  • Double Crochet
  • Half Double Crochet
  • Popcorn stitch

πŸ‘‰ If you're completely new to crochet, learn the basic stitches first and then come back to this project. It will make following the pattern much easier.

✨ Colour Ideas

You don't have to make your hair tie in the same colours as the example.

Try:

  • 🌸 Pink
  • ❤️ Red
  • πŸ’œ Purple
  • πŸ’› Yellow
  • 🌈 pastel shades for a soft look
  • 🀍 White

For festivals and weddings, you can also choose colours that match your outfit.

🧢 Beginner Tips

Use a suitable hook.
A very large hook can leave the elastic exposed, while a very small hook can make the project unnecessarily difficult.

Count your stitches if you're making a repeated border.

Hide your yarn ends properly.
Loose ends can make a handmade accessory look unfinished and may also come undone with regular use.

πŸ’• Ways to Use Your Crochet Hair Tie

This little project isn't only for your own hair. You can also make it as:

  • A handmade gift
  • A birthday return gift
  • A small festive accessory
  • A matching accessory for an outfit
  • A handmade item for craft fairs
  • A cute addition to a gift box

You can make several in different colours and create your own small collection.

Final Thoughts

Crochet doesn't always have to mean making a large or complicated project. Small projects like this hair tie are a great way to practise crochet while creating something you can actually use.

Once you understand the basic construction, experiment with different colours, flowers, borders, and yarn types to create your own version.
